The Sunday Salon: Lookin’ Forward To The Rain…

tss-badgeAs Lisa mentioned in her post today, we are bracing for torrential rains this week.  I’m so excited!  We live in an irrigated desert, so rain is ultra important to us.  According to my best friend, they predict that this storm will refill the water reserves in Northern California, which supplies Southern California with water.  So, rain is a very good thing for us.  For those of you in Washington State, you may giggle at this based on your weather… but, we look forward to it.

I’m a commercial property manager and rain is never a good thing for us because we inevitably get roof leak calls and window leak calls during storms.  It seems that the rain here hits buildings in a sideways manner, not just dumping down from up above.  Needless to say, this will be a very busy week for me at the office.

The twins will also love the week of rain because they get to pull out their umbrellas from their closets and take them to school.  Also, this means no P.E. at school because their outdoor education is all outdoors based on our normally wonderful weather year-around.

I’m stoked about the rain because that means that I won’t have to water my lawn for at least two weeks after this storm.  Yeah!  I can’t wait to see how beautiful my gardens look in a few weeks.

I remember when I was a little girl and it rained.  My mom would make us tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.  My sister and I would play upstairs in our room and look out the window.  We would be so bored that we would create a little scenario of us being trapped upstairs in our room.  We would use colored chalk and paint our faces.  After we dressed in our pretty clothes, we would stand by the window and wait to see if any cars would come down the street.  When the trash truck arrived, then that was one of our boyfriends coming to see us.  Then, a dump truck went down the street and that was the other boyfriend.  We’d just stare out the window and dream up all types of stories of what was happening in the outside world.

Now, the funny thing will be to see if I still love the rain in my next Sunday Salon post!  Onto my weekly reading update…

American Idol

Is there anyone in America who hasn’t seen this fantastic video of General Larry Platt singing “Pants On The Ground?”

The Rest…

We’re getting ready for Colie’s first basketball game on Tuesday afternoon.  By mid-month February, we’re back to practice for Spring Soccer.  The kids cannot wait and truthfully, neither can I!

I had a great time visiting with my sister and her family yesterday.  The girls got to play with their cousins and swim in the pool for hours.  The barbeque was terrific and I really enjoyed holding my baby nephew.

My sister and I have planned a trip to the mountains in mid-February.  It goes without saying that the twins and I are super excited.  Hopefully there will be snow and the kids can snowboard for a day while I hit the warm, cozy lounge!

No other new news… just living life.

As always, my thanks to all of you for reading not only this post, but the others as well.   Your readership means the world to me!  AND, your comments are invaluable to me!

First, I just have to share this story. My husband was preparing yesterday for an overseas business trip, three other guys were going with him. Well one “claimed” he was sick, and the other “forgot” they were flying out yesterday. My husband was so frustrated. He turned to me and said “Unbelievable! Pants on the ground!”.

I love rain, and in particular, thunderstorms. They make me sleepy and cuddly and in wanting of soup and a good book. I get twitchy though when we start to flood. Then I want it to go away.

I am so totally psyched about the Susan Jane Gilman giveaway. You may expect me sitting here at your doorstep, with a begging look on my face.

We’ve had a rainy weekend here, but we’re not celebrating like it sounds like you will. I know we need the rain, but I always wish it would just rain at night while I’m sleeping.

I hope that you enjoy the rain! I was just complaining to my husband that it seems like it’s been about a month since I’ve seen the sun. I don’t know if it’s been an entire month or not, but I can count on one hand the number of times I have glimpsed the sun between the clouds in the past two months. I miss seeing the sky without cloud cover. But, I guess that’s just to be expected here in Oregon. It will keep raining all the way through May (we’ll just have a few more sunny days in between the rainy ones as the months go).

Yeah, it does rain in Oregon quite a bit, like Washington. It was so funny, it was 72 degrees, sunny and not a cloud in the sky. Now, it’s raining. Yeah, rain!

I’m so glad that you’ll be entering the contest. It seems like Pants On The Ground will be used like “Going Rogue.” It will definitely be in the Best of 2010 recaps at year end.

It’s raining in my part of the state right now. Yay! Of course, it means fighting my dog when he has to go out to do his business and cleaning off his paws when he comes in, but I don’t mind. I love the rain. :-)

I hadn’t seen the “Pants on the Ground” clip. Thanks for sharing. :-)

I hope you have a great week!

I hope you’ll enjoy your rain. It’s not my favorite thing and it’s definitely not my dog’s favorite thing either but I know you all need it. I’ll be lucky to see anything green yet for another few months. I always get a kick out of reading about your green grass and gardens when I’m in the middle of winter.

I like your story about you and your sister when you were kids and it rained. It’s fun to remember those times when we were young.

Hope you have a great week!

I’ll be sick of the rain (and what it does to my 80-mile daily commute) by Thursday, if it really does hang around that long, but there’s no question that we need it and it’s good to get it!

I’ve been wanting to read that Elizabeth McCracken memoir. If you got it for review, I guess that means it will be out in paperback soon, so that’s great news.

Have a good week, Sheri – stay dry :-) .

I just love the rain! Probably a left over from living in California. Of course now being in Arizona, we totally can use it whenever we get it. Tomorrow we are supposed to get rain followed by two days of snow. I am so glad I have a great jacket and warm gloves. I just wish the snow would come when I am NOT working. :)

Hope things aren’t too hard on you with work. :) Have a great week!

Rain, Rain! I am in Santa Barbara and we’re enjoying the rain as well. Actually, as I type the sun is coming out, but we’re in for a week of storms so I am excited…we definitely need it! I wonder if you are close by…

I don’t mind rain as long as it doesn’t last for days and days and days. Then I start to get depressed and mopey and can’t even bring myself to read. And that’s a very bad thing!

Color me jealous that you found An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination in your mialbox for review. I’ve had that one on my wishlist ever since I first heard about it.

[...] Last week I shared about how I was so looking forward to the rain.  We had TONS of it!  I’m not sure if your news station reported the heavy weather that we ended up getting, but let me tell you that we got a pretty decent storm for Southern California. In fact, we even had a small tornado off the coast of my home town.  [...]
