Publisher’s Summary
The Review
Hannah Friedman is smart, quirky and has an amazing story to tell. Her book describes her life growing up
with, well… original parents (for lack of a better description). I mean, how would you describe parents who raised you with a monkey as your older sister? As bright as she was, she didn’t exactly fit in with the kids at school… that is, when she was in school and not being home-schooled by her traveling parents. She navigated her way through boarding school. Her natural ability to write offered her the opportunity to attend Yale University and she set her sights on that. However, in her attempts to fit in with the crowd she picks up an eating disorder and drug habit, neither of which are good choices on the road to Yale.
Her immense talent and brilliant mind led her to write her debut book, which I found very interesting. Based upon what she’s been through up until the time she wrote this book, I was impressed with how young she is with a published memoir. I was captivated by the book and read it in under 2 days. This book isn’t your typical teenage girl story; in fact, everything about this book is the opposite of that. What I most appreciated about Everything Sucks! is the honesty in the voice of the author. Her truth engaged me because I came to respect her for that honesty and her strong mind.
For a taste of her quirkiness, check out the video(s) on her website.
I missed reviewing this book for the TLC Book Tour back in August… however you can check out the many reviews listed there.
The Rating
On Sher’s “Out of Ten Scale,” I am giving Everything Sucks! a rating of 8.5 out of 10. It’s definitely a fresh perspective on growing up in the oddest of circumstances.
Giving Thanks
I wanted to thank Hannah for sending me this review copy… even though I was so slammed with homework that I took forever to get my review written (I read it in November).

I read this back in Sept and loved it. I completely agree, not your typical teen story.
Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day and also for the compliments.
I’m really picky when it comes to memoirs, but I’ve heard good things about this one, so I’m looking forward to reading it. Glad to see you enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this one a lot! Hannah was at times hilarious and at times heartbreaking. I was surprised by how much some of the later parts spoke to me even though my teen years are very far behind! Great post Sheri
Great title for a book! lol
I really enjoyed this book too! I loved the way Hannah discovered what was important in life.
