The “Skinny” on the Book

Did you know that the largest glandular organ in the body is the liver weighing in at nearly 3 pounds?  I probably should have, but I honestly didn’t remember that fact.

I thought that the liver was the kind little organ that aided with cleaning my blood.  And, it is.  However, it is so much more than that.  What Drs. Eade & Eade have uncovered in this greatly informational book is that the liver plays a very big role in maintaining a better waistline.  Specifically, this scientific read explains how and why the liver has such a crucial role in eliminating visceral fat that accumulates around the organs.  It provides the reader with an educational, yet completely comprehensive outline the proposed diet plan.

What I appreciated about 6-Week was the fact that the authors provided a detailed explanation, including scientific back-up, as to why they believe this diet will make such a great impact on the middle-aged middle.  Beyond the education and explanation, the doctors provide diets for the 6-weeks in addition to a full cook-book of meals for the said diet plan.

So… am I going to try the plan?  YES!  However, I am saving it for my New Year’s Resolution.  I’ll tell you why…

  1.  You have to give up alcoholic beverages.  I am not so sure that I’d do a great job of that around the holidays.

  2.  You must relinquish the carbs.  That’s right!  It’s a protein-packed diet.  There’s just no way that I can just say “no” to those between 12/24 & 12/31.

  3.  You must be commited to making a decent amount of protein shakes.  I’m good to go with this, however I’d like to be able to start the new year fresh.  I can envision myself taking my blender into the office and making my shakes on break.

The book really does provide compelling and convincing evidence to back up this plan.  After reading it, I’m on-board.  Besides, my belly is just way too big!  And, I’m now middle-aged.  And, my liver enzyme results on a recent blood panel indicate that I need a big change in my diet to bring these results back into normal range.

SO… I’ll report back in 2010 and let you know how my 6-week plan does!

9The Rating

The authors have written 12 books including Protein Power which have sold more than 4 million copies after being on the New York Times bestseller list for 63 weeks.  Drs. Eade & Eade know diet & fitness… of that I’m sure.  I think this book has everything a reader needs if they want to attempt a targeted weight loss for the middle section.  I thought the book was easy to read, the recipes sound delicious and I’m sold.  Overall… it’s a good book and poses some very interesting information to consider for dieting.

Giving Thanks

My heartfelt thanks to TLC Book Tours for letting me participate on the tour of this book.  I really enjoyed it and… am hopeful that my middle will be grateful, as well, in 2010.

I was thinking my butt was the largest glandular organ in my body! Ha! Well, I’ll be interested to see how this works for you in the new year. As pathetic as it sounds, I don’t think I can give up wine. I don’t drink alot but what I do drink is important to me!

I can’t wait what to see how this works for you. I could do the first two, but I’m not so sure about the protein shakes.

NO WINE???!!! That would be hard for me. Some days that’s the only thing that saves my sanity.

Can’t wait to see how you do on this! THanks so much for taking the time to read and review this book.

Good luck with implementing this diet in the new year! I think it would be just about impossible to start one around the holidays. I know I’ve just been trying to get in some extra exercise to ward off the extra holiday pounds, but who wants to exercise when there’s hot cocoa, snugly blankets and good books to read?

The alcohol restriction is just in the first two-week phase (as I recall), just to give your liver a break! ;-)

I’m a big fan of the Drs. Eades and lost 35 pounds following their Protein Power LifePlan book. 6 Week Cure is an excellent book, too. Good luck!

For the comenters, it is a 6 week plan, in three 2 week parts, and during some of those parts, you are told not to have any X, but you can in moderation, in the other parts. So not for life, not even for the full 6 weeks. Getting to where I can do without caffeine for two weeks will be hard.
