I LOVE LOVE LOVE to celebrate Halloween with my kids. We are so silly about it… decorating the front yard, wearing costumes, and making it a fun and spooky place. We get the whole fog thing going with spooky music and strobe lights… waaaa-haaaa-haaaa!
We also do the pumpkin carving stencils and make uber-fabulous jack-o-lanterns. Friday night was carving night until quite late. Claire, our Basset Hound who we are now calling “Thumpy” (because of the tail that starts up when she sees us), doesn’t like Halloween. She is afraid of the sounds and doesn’t like the people up and down her street. We told her not to be afraid of ghosts! But, we fear she is!
Personally, I just really enjoy my witches brew and scaring all of the little kids when I emerge out of the smoky fog! Some of the smaller ones are even sometimes too scared to come up the driveway. This always makes me grin because I remember being young and feeling that way. Most of the parents and neighbors all thank me for getting the house all decorated and ready for the evening… that is because so many just turn off all their lights and pretend not to be home. And, many kids still love to trick-or-treat. So… they’re happy to have a fun house to come to.
The other thing that these parents and I talk about is my ex-husband’s house which is always decorated to the hilt! He’s always got a much scarier place than mine. It could almost look like competing haunted houses! But, his house is always much more elaborate and his always looks better. Once, the newspaper came out and reported about his haunted house… TRUE!
Update: Here’s Last Night’s Picture of the twins…
So… it’s a fun night that we’re all looking forward to!

Fall To Pieces – A Memoir of Drugs, Rock N’ Roll and Mental Illness by Mary Forsberg Weiland. I don’t know anything about this person, although it appears that she led the quite famous life. I’m actually looking forward to it!

Here is this week’s recap!
The Rest…
As I am writing this week’s Sunday Salon post a tad early so that I can enjoy the Halloween Festivities, we have yet to play our soccer game. However, the twins are pumped about it and we’ll leaving shortly for the match. Sunday hosts all-star tryouts and I think Dee Dee might try out. Although, the competition is really tough at this level. Update: We ended up winning! It was a tough game and very hot outside. But, we squeaked by 2-1!
Also, on Sunday my brother and his wife are taking me and the kids out to dinner to celebrate my big 4-0! We’re going to this place called Lucille’s that I just love love love. It’s yummy southern barbeque! My handsome nephew is going with us and I can’t wait to see what he wants to eat!
This week we had very strong winds that we call the Santa Ana Winds. They were so strong that palm frawns were falling from the trees and landing into power lines. From there, they caught fire and subsequently fell to the ground on fire. Several small fires were reported throughout the neighborhood in backyards, front yards, and even on RV’s. Then, our transformer completely blew and we were out of power for 10 hours. It was horrible. The kids did their homework and took their showers by candlelight… and that was fine. However, I just felt so unsafe without the power on at night. It was hard falling asleep that evening just to be awoken at 4:45am when the power came back on.
The attic in my home got insulated this week for the first time, ever! I’m so excited. Maybe out house will stay warmer as the temperatures finally start to drop around here. It is such a blessing… especially because I have such a huge attic!
School’s been kicking my tushie! I’m afraid to report that I’m not going to get straight A’s this semester. In fact, I’ve already finished one of my fall courses and I got a B. It blows! I had a low A for the majority of the semester, but didn’t do well on my final and earned a C. That score brought me to a B. I’m such a LOOOSA! So, I have consistently a good amount of homework due through November. In December, I think I’m down to one class and that will be good. Maybe I can get back to watching TV and blogging…. and reading… NOT TEXTBOOKS! Ugh. Yes, only one more month of hard work!
As always, my thanks to all of you for reading not only this post, but the others as well. Your readership means the world to me! AND, your comments are invaluable to me!

Our dog loves small children so she loves Halloween! She thinks they’ve all come over to see her and if she can get a pat or two from them, her evening’s made. Hey, a B is above average, so don’t sweat it.

Halloween causes my bark monster serious stress. we end up having to crate her to keep her from terrifying all the kids who come to the door.

Oh, how much fun! We don’t decorate a single thing for Halloween because we live down a private lane and nobody comes here! We do dress up though and go to a friend’s neighborhood. I don’t think your ex-husband has anything on your house though…your house is the one with the three cute girls! And I have to chime in on the school as well. Don’t call yourself a LOOSA! You are juggling a million things, I think you should give yourself a break. The fact that you are going back to school at this stage in your life speaks volumes!
