“Darcy Rhone thought she had it all figured out: the more beautiful the girl, the more charmed her life. Never mind substance. Never mind playing by the rules. Never mind karma.
But Darcy’s neat, perfrect world turns upside down when her best friend, Rachel White, the plain-Jane “good girl,” steals her finace, while Darcy fins herself completely alone for the first time in her life… with a baby on the way.
Darcy tries to recover, fleeing to her childhood friend living in London and resorting to her tried-and-true methods for getting what she wants. But as she attempts to recreate her glamorous life on a new continent, Darcy finds that her rules no longer apply. It is only then that Darcy can begin her journey toward self-awareness, forgiveness, and motherhood.”

My Review
I really enjoyed Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. Love The One You’re With was another ChickLit novel of hers that I thoroughly enjoyed. How could I miss with Something Blue? It really seems highly unlikely that I wouldn’t love this book! And, I did!
The main character in this book, Darcy, is annoying, petty, selfish, and shallow. I absolutely couldn’t stand this character in Something Borrowed and found her spiritually and morally bankrupt. Likewise, I spent the better part of the first half of this book disliking her immensely. However, the series of events that occur in her life during her pregnancy change her right in front of the readers’ eyes. It was after these personality changes that I really came to empathize with her and wish her well. I rooted for that seemingly-impossible love interest to materialize. I wished her luck with her pregnancy. I grew to like her.
The second night that I read this book, I needed a MAJOR ESCAPE from my own thoughts and problems. This book did just the trick! It transported me into another realm and kept me there until the end. In fact, I refused to go to bed until I finished it. This is the type of book that I need, I crave. It’s wasn’t heavy and the subject matter had enough depth, yet was just light enough for my enjoyment. I love books like this!
For more reviews her other two books, check out the links above. She’s a popular writer, and a good one at that. She’s ChickLit at its best!
On Sher’s “Out of Ten Scale”:
Well… I really liked it! I liked it as much as Something Borrowed, or maybe a little more because of the turn of events in the 2nd half of the book. I’m giving it a high rating because it was the right book for me at exactly the right time. Need an escape and not up for tv… Something Borrowed and Something Blue are a great duo! In the genre: ChickLit, this one gets high marks from me!

I absolutely adored “Love the One You’re With”. I listened to it on audio, and it was well narrated. Talk about an escape! I know it is supposedly classified as Chick Lit but to me it felt a little richer and more serious than that genre implies. I really need to get my hands on more of her books. It is good to know all of her work is so enjoyable!

I could have sworn I had this book, but a quick search didn’t turn it up. Shucks! I’ll have to look for it now.

Very cool that you liked this one so much! I go through reading phases, and lately I haven’t been in much of a mood to read chick-lit. I’m sure that will turn around though (especially in winter – there’s nothing like a nice just-for-fun read in the dead of winter).

Are these books part of a series or just have some of the same characters?

I bought a few of Giffin’s books at a library sale a while back, but I haven’t read them yet. This is one of the books sitting on my shelf, so I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it.

I actually read this book! It is not my normal genre, but I like to break out of my ‘normal’ reads once in a while. I can’t say I loved it, but they were fun books.

Thanks for the recommendations. These are the types of book I enjoy reading also. I haven’t read any Emily Griffin books yet but will put her on my TBR list. I’m currently finishing a Kristen White book called “Mystic in a Minivan”. It’s a good chick-lit book filled with humor and spirituality. I’m really enjoying it.
