balloon boy

Many believe that Richard Heene played the media like fools and that he had single-handedly orchestrated the biggest media hoax of 2009.  Across our nation’s cable television and radio networks, people watched and listened to the story of a balloon traveling from Fort Collins, Texas to Colorado. All the while the viewers and listeners of this news feared that the balloon was carrying his 6-year old son, Falcon.   Hours after the balloon had landed, sans the boy, did the Heenes claim that little Falcon had been hiding in the attic the entire time.

What’s got people up in arms is that Richard Heene contacted not only the local sheriff’s department, but also the media to assist in the so-called-rescue of his son traveling in the balloon, knowing all along that little Falcon was safe and sound.   After the news of Falcon’s safety, Richard Heene and his family appeared on Larry King Live as well as on the Today show the following morning.    It seems that what people are now most upset about were the answers that Falcon gave on the Larry King Live show in which he, in essence, said that he “did it for the tv show.”   A follow up interview on CNN reveals a very defensive Richard Heene about what Falcon had said.

At some point today, we are expecting a press conference in which the Ft. Collins’ Sheriffs Department will publicly announce the charges that will be pressed against The Heenes for their illegal behavior (see video insert).  WHAT CHOPS MY HIDE?  The amount of public tax dollars and private dollars spent on the tracking of this wayward balloon in the belief that they were on a life-saving mission… when, all along, they were falling into the hands of a whack-job who believed there was no harm done in his personal use of the press for a publicity stunt.  WHAT MAKES ME SAD?  That a nation, for a few hours, came together in the hopes of seeing a miraculous rescue of a young boy.  I can only imagine the number of prayers that were said for his safe landing.  (*which makes me wonder what God thought about all of this?*)  When our nation needs something good to focus on… not lose faith in others because of idiot stunts like this.   WHAT MAKES ME SICK?  Poor little Falcon was so upset about being told to lie to the cameras that he literally was vomiting over it.

SHAME ON THE PARENTS!

I did happen to see Richard Heene and his family on Wife Swap.  At the time, I thought that he was a TOTAL KOOK and couldn’t stop shaking my head.  He was a total drama queen then, as much as he is now.  I bet ABC will get some great ratings if they re-air the episodes!

What do you think?

Should Richard Heene (and his wife) be legally charged with crimes for this incident? And, should they be financially liable to repay public tax dollars?
