I invite everybody to participate in the weekly MEME and write about any movies, television or big screen, that you’ve seen over the past week and write about it. Please feel free to use the above logo photo in your post and/or link back to the site. I will post every Sunday Night or Monday Morning on the movie I’ve seen from the past week. I’m hoping that there are other movie buffs out there who will enjoy the MEME as much as I’m hoping to! The only small request that I have is that you rate the movie out of 5 bags of popcorn (so, 1 bag out of 5, 2 bags out of 5, and so on).

Movie: Revolutionary Road
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Kathy Bates
Genre: Drama
Runtime: 119 Minutes
MPAA Rating: R
Directed By: Sam Mendes
I read and reviewed this book in February with the intention of seeing the movie in the theater. However, I never quite got around to it. In a recent trip to the video store, I was happy to finally rent it.
I found the movie to tie very closely to the book, although the book gives the reader greater insight into what is going on in the minds of April & Frank Wheeler. As this story is a psychological one, the book far and away does a much better job in outlining the reasoning behind the characters’ actions. However, the movie is very well acted by both Winslet and DiCaprio. As in Titantic, their strong on-screen connection brings the characters to life in the hearts of the viewers. Kathy Bates does an amazing job as their meddling realtor and is perfectly cast in this role.
For the genre drama, I will rate this movie 4 bags o’ popcorn. The movie is as sad and tragic as the book. Therefore, be prepared to view a movie that is about what disappointment can do to people… and how shattered dreams can result in lives torn apart.

I’ve been wanting to see this movie because of the actors. Glad to see it’s good.

I saw the previews and it looked too sad!

I agree that it was a very good movie and the acting was great. But it was such a downer…I don’t think I could have handled reading this book.

I really looked forward to this movie and ended up seeing it by myself in Las Vegas in January. It was so depressing for me, especially because I saw it alone. Thankfully I was able to meet up with a fun co-worker the next day or I really would have been in a funk during that trip. Because of that reaction, I’ve avoided reading the book.
I did think that the acting was wonderful. I was surprised that Leo wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. The scene where he was running through the woods and that argument was incredibly done.

I really liked this movie though it was sad and depressing. I love these actors and the setting of the film was lovely. I thought it did a very good job of staying true to the book. Of course the book gives you a lot more insight into the characters. I enjoyed both. I’m so glad you reviewed this movie!
Sheri, I tried to join the group and out my name and URL in the boxes provided after the list of all contributors. Just my name showed up at #142 – did I do something wrong – it’s my first time signing up this way! sorry!

I really want to read the book, but I have no desire to see the movie. I think it’s because every time I look at it, it reminds me of the Titanic, another depressing movie that they both did together. Silly, given that I know how excellent they are as actors.

Hi, Loved your blog, very interesting. I have read Revolutionary Road 2-3 months back Iam usually not a fan of movies which are made from a very very good book, to me most of the times movies do not do justice to the books but after reading your review I will watch the movie. Thanks.

You know… the book does have a very good story. It was very well written for the time. The movie was also very good. Sometimes sad is good because it makes you think… you know… Don’t shy away from the movie due to the heavy subject matter…
Thanks for the review. I haven’t read the book nor seen the movie. Now I just might.

I think I’ll enjoy the book, but a sad, tragic story is one I need to be in the mood for. I just finished one of those too.

I haven’t decided if I want to see this movie yet. My husband’s interested, but for some reason, I haven’t been. Not sure exactly why. I like sad tragic movies, so I know that’s not it . . . Maybe someday. Great review, Sheri!

I usually see movies first at this point because I love to go back and read the book and have all the holes filled in and note all the changes. I enjoyed this movie, though it was a sad one and am really looking forward to seeing all the details in the book.
