Monday’s Movie: The Ugly Truth
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
I invite everybody to participate in the weekly MEME and write about any movies, television or big screen, that you’ve seen over the past week and write about it. Please feel free to use the above logo photo in your post and/or link back to the site. I will post every Sunday Night or Monday Morning on the movie I’ve seen from the past week. I’m hoping that there are other movie buffs out there who will enjoy the MEME as much as I’m hoping to! The only small request that I have is that you rate the movie out of 5 bags of popcorn (so, 1 bag out of 5, 2 bags out of 5, and so on).

Movie: The Ugly Truth
Starring: Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butleter, Eric Winter, Cheryl Hines, Bree Turner, John M. Higgins
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Runtime: 96 Minutes
MPAA Rating: R
Directed By: Robert Luketic
I was dying to catch a rated-R, no-kiddie film while the twins were away. I decided on a late Sunday matinee of The Ugly Truth. I heard that it was very funny and had the romance to make it a perfect chick flick.
First, I agree that it had the romance. I’m a bit surprised that I easily found a liking for Gerard Butler. Although older and certainly not as hot as some of of the other actors out there, (*ahem, Bradley Cooper*) he has a certain sex appeal that sucked me right in. He almost reminds me of Russel Crow. He’s got the wrinkles, whiskers, and all the imperfections that drive the women wild. And, Katherine… I always liked her on Grey’s Anatomy. However, she’s no Sandra Bullock or Julia Roberts, both of whom I love love love. I think she did an “ok” job in the movie, but you can tell that certain parts of her performance were just flat out… FAKE. Let me explain.. the heroine is a control freak chick who admits to being non-sexual in her life. Specifically, she’s looking for the right man or right reason to have any type of sexual activity. However, when she portrayed this character, it wasn’t believable.

In some scenes, specifically the one in the restaurant in which she is wearing the wrong pair of panties, Heigl did a great job. However for much of the movie she held little, if any, of my attention. Far and away, Butler was the best actor of the bunch. However, even with his character, I couldn’t help to feel like I’ve “been there and done that.”
This movie is filled with foul language. Typically that doesn’t bother me in the slightest. However, for some reason with this movie it just seemed like it would be better without it. To understand why, I’d have to litter this post with a bunch of explicatives and I’m going to avoid that. Another area where I saw a need for improvement was the end of the movie when they are up in a hot air balloon. The special effects and filming of this part were so obviously fake and cheesy that I just shook my head. For a movie that’s brought in over $30M, you’d think they could have spent the money on better filming in this area. Such a disappointment.

I went to see this movie over Sandra Bullock’s The Proposal because I heard that this one was really funny. If I were to compare this to The Hangover, I’d say that The Hangover kept me in stiches the marjority of the film while The Ugly Truth only held moments of laughter for me.
For the genre romantic comedy, I will rate this movie 3 bags o’ popcorn. I would spend less time on the profanity of this movie and more time on character development and plot. This movie had a ton of potential, but just fell short.

Gerard Butler has it all going on! He has more appeal, to me, than 10 of his younger colleages. I would be doing to same thing…an R-rated movie fest. I don’t get to see enough of these!

This one caught my eye also, but it sounds like if I had a choice I would probably pick The Proposal. Thanks for the movie review!

Heigl doesn’t do it for me. I honestly do not see what the draw is with her. I thought she was pretty funny in Knocked Up but she didn’t do it for me in 27 Dresses or whatever it was called.
Gerard Butler though is pretty hot in his old guy way.

doesn’t sound like a movie I want to watch but then again Katherine Heigl annoys me – I don’t know what it is about her but whenever I see her on screen, I feel like turning away – perhaps she’s better in small dosage

Sounds like one for Red Box! Thanks for the review. I do think Heigl is so beautiful though.

I hate when films, or any other work, doesn’t live up to it’s potential. Thank you for linking my post, that was very kind of you. I could have gotten around to it.
As for the constant changes on my blog, I plan on changing the background on the header and the accent color every month but all else should basically remain the same from now on.

Gerard Butler is the favorite actor of my sister because he got this macho factor.`,”
