The Score + Giveaway: My Sister’s Keeper, The Soundtrack

Welcome to “The Score,” A Novel Menagerie’s weekly music feature. Each Thursday, I will share an artist and a song that I favor. Thereafter, the song will be available to you in my sidebar widget until the following week’s selection.
I welcome your suggestions for future artist spotlights.

This week, I have a special treat!
I read and loved the book My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I haven’t gotten to the theatre to see the movie yet, although the twins are dying for me to take them to see it. In the meantime, I was introduced to the movie soundtrack. So, this week I’ve not only got a song for you, but also a music video and a GIVEAWAY!
First, here’s the link to a beautiful song written by Elton John & Bernie Taupin, vocals by Jeff Buckley: http://newlinerecords.com/soundtracks/mysisterskeeper/player.html
The soundtrack includes this song by Pete Yorn. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pete Yorn and will be highlighting him in another The Score in near future (promise…). In the meantime, here is his music video for “Don’t Wanna Cry.”
Now for the SUPER COOL part! A MUSIC GIVEAWAY!

I have a CD of the soundtrack to GIVEAWAY to one of my lucky readers!
-and-

The winner will also receive this AUTOGRAPHED movie poster… which was generously donated by Monica at Monniblog. I’m positive that most of you are familiar with her blog, but, if you’re not… please check it out. I’ve been a reader of hers for sometime and I really enjoy her site! {Guess what I love the most about this picture???? Her kittie-cat’s paw is in the upper corner… thanks for the help, Henry!} Monica has some other fantastic websites to check out… you’ll recognize some of the digital art on one of them:

For another additional entry, be a subscriber to A Novel Menagerie. The contest is open to residents of U.S. and Canada, only and is open until June 23rd, 5:00pm PST. GOOD LUCK!
Back to the music…
I’ve listened to the songs on the soundtrack and I find Greg Laswell’s version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” very interesting. But, I think, overall, my favorite song is one by Pete Yorn. What can I say? I’m a fan! So, for this week’s The Score Music Player, enjoy “Don’t Wanna Cry.”
Just press play in The Score Music Player and Enjoy!
Here is the Music Player. You need to installl flash player to show this cool thing!
Don’t Wanna Cry
Don’t wanna cry for you. There’s nothing left to lose.
If it can make me feel better, than I’m gonna cry, cry for you.
Don’t wanna cry for you. There’s nothing left to do.
If it can make me feel better, than I’m gonna cry, cry for you.
I know men aren’t supposed to act this way, but things they got too real; I couldn’t stay.
Now I know one day we will both feel good. If I could be with you, you know I would.
I don’t wanna cry for you. There’s nothing left to do.
If it can make me feel better, than I’m gonna cry, cry for you.
I don’t wanna cry for you. There’s nothing left to lose.
If it can make me feel better, than I’m gonna cry, cry for you.
Turn the lights down low and close the door, and try to feel the way I felt before. Hell, cry in the middle of the day, It better make me feel a better way, if it could take my pain away.
Yeah Oh
Take my pain away
I don’t wanna cry for you. There’s nothing left to lose.
You gotta let the boy have his way. Cause it gets him to drink it away.
I don’t wanna cry for you. There’s nothing left to do.
If it can make me feel better, than I’m gonna cry, cry for you.
If it can make me feel better, than I’m gonna cry, cry for you.
Oooh,(make me feel better) cry for you

have not read the book yet but the premise sounds interesting
The Score sounds like an interesting meme/idea, I’m already doing Thursday Tunes which is similar – I’m wondering if you are going to be just highlighting soundtracks

I saw the movie & enjoyed it, but I was shocked that they changed the ending. I think the change really negated a lot of the novel’s meaning. In any event, I did enjoy the music & would like to be entered for the soundtrack.

Cool! We love love love Pete Yorn too. I would be thrilled to be entered in your giveaway, and let me tell you one of my favorite artists. Actually I have been meaning to review him for a while after I did the Revive review and before my Ruth review (both awesome bands). Anyway check out Matthew Perryman Jones. I found him about three years ago when I was just tooling around the internet. He is amazing. Check out his CD Throwing Punches in the Dark” (about two or three years old but amazing!) and the song Refuge. I ADORE it. No…I really do.
Thank you Sher for the amazing giveaway! I love sound tracks.
