I invite everybody to participate in the weekly MEME and write about any movies, television or big screen, that you’ve seen over the past week and write about it.  Please feel free to use the above logo photo in your post and/or link back to the site.  I will post every Sunday Night or Monday Morning on the movie I’ve seen from the past week.  I’m hoping that there are other movie buffs out there who will enjoy the MEME as much as I’m hoping to!  The only small request that I have is that you rate the movie out of 5 bags of popcorn (so, 1 bag out of 5, 2 bags out of 5, and so on).

yes20manMovie:  Yes Man

Starring:  Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschannel, Bradley Cooper, John Michael Higgins, Sasha Alexander, Molly Simms, Terence Stamp

Genre:  Comedy

Runtime: 104 Minutes

MPAA Rating:  PG-13

Directed By:  Peyton Reed

I recently read that Jim Carrey is becoming a grandpa!  His oldest daughter is pregnant.  Congrats, Grandpa!  His leading lady in this movie, Zooey Deschannel,  looks young enough to be his daughter.  I will never understand why casting directors don’t pay closer attention to the age gaps between leading men and women.  Their age difference bothered me the entire movie.

Moving beyond that… I really like Jim Carrey.  I liked him in just about everything he did, except I’m not a huge fan of  The Mask nor Ace Ventura.    I just think I’ve heard, “SOMEBODY STOP ME!” too many times!   My most favorite role of Carrey’s was his lead in Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind (excellent soundtrack on that movie, BTW).  I think he did his usual great job on this movie and the performance was comparable to Liar, Liar.  This guy is just an uber-talent and you can’t help but to laugh when you watch him.  It’s his God-given gift that he’s received, I tell ya’.

yes-manThis movie was about a negative guy who was in a slump… the standard story of recent divorce, dead-end job, and a good case of the blues.  He runs into an old friend who gets him thinking about attending an “inspirational seminar” to change his life by enacting the power of “yes.”  In theory, I could see how being open to new things and saying “yes” to things that you would normal say “no” to could change your life.   It was fun watching how this changed his!  He meets a girl, learns a foreign language, takes flying lessons, tackles the guitar, and reaches out to his nerdy boss.  It changes his life in ways that were unimaginable to him when he was in his “slump.”

My favorite scene of the movie is when he is attempting to talk a man out of his suicide attempt in jumping off of a building.  It’s awesome!  He ends up bringing him down with his newly mastered guitar skills and singing, “…why don’t you step off that ledge my friend? You could capsize from all the lies that you’ve been living in.  And if you don’t want to see me again, I will understaaannnnndddd…”  I was rolling.

Overall, this movie was light, funny, and just what the doctor ordered!  However, be aware on the PG-13 rating… there is a scene in which an elderly lady does a naughty thing and I think it was too much for PG-13.  Other than that… acceptable for tweens/teens.   Out of 5 bags of popcorn, genre comedy… I give this:

I have a love/hate relationship with Jim Carrey. I’ve never laughed so hard at his antics, and sometimes he just makes me angry for his stupidness. I can’t believe he is going to be a grandpa! I didn’t even know he had kids…

I like some of Carrey’s movies, but sometimes he just gets too darn silly for me.

My hubby and I both thought this was funny – but I agree about the old lady thing, that was a bit much.

Also, I love the new look here – it’s very classy!

Great review. I really liked this one too, and yep…the only thing that bothered me was the age thing. Of course the actress is 29 and looks 22. :) Then again, so did I at 29 (ahhhh memories!).

It was a fun film. :)

I know I’m a bit late, I just find your meme today – I love movies and I’m sure I’ll do this meme again next week

I hope my review is clear, I’m not very good at writing reviews, I always seem to focus on the goods

I saw Yes Man and thought it was okay, I didn’t care much for the elderly lady naughty scene either, I especially was a bit creep out by the few bits of the movie “The Saw” where Jim Carrey’s character is watching, not a big fan of horror movie nor am I fan of Jim Carrey’s naked butts at the end of the movie

still an enjoyable movie, I like the positive thinking behind it, sometimes you just don’t realize you’re saying no to life
