Monday’s Movie: Race To Witch Mountain
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
I invite everybody to participate in the weekly MEME and write about any movies, television or big screen, that you’ve seen over the past week and write about it. Please feel free to use the above logo photo in your post and/or link back to the site. I will post every Sunday Night or Monday Morning on the movie I’ve seen from the past week. I’m hoping that there are other movie buffs out there who will enjoy the MEME as much as I’m hoping to! The only small request that I have is that you rate the movie out of 5 bags of popcorn (so, 1 bag out of 5, 2 bags out of 5, and so on).

Race To Witch Mountain
Before I get into my review of this remake… I have to share with my readers that I remember watching the original movie, Escape From Witch Mountain, as a kid. I loved it. There’s a special friend out there in the blogsphere that I’ve added this video for. She will understand why I cheered incesantly for the RV in the remake. (Note to friend: Grab a diet coke and sit down to watch the entire thing! You gotta dig the 70′s high-tech movie scene! The twins laughed at me and said that this was “wierd!”)
Now for the review on Race to Witch Mountain:
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Ciaran Hinds, Anna-Sophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig, Carla Gugino
Directed By: Andy Fickman
Genre: Action/Adventure – Kids/Family – Remake
Rated: PG
Runtime: 99 Minutes
The twins have been BEGGING to see this movie. It makes me smile thinking about the innocence of the original Disney movie Escape From Witch Mountain. We had invited a few friends along to catch a movie so we were lucky that we got to watch Race to Witch Mountain with them. There they were… the four girls, my friend and I, up along the very back wall (aka last row at the top), armed with popcorn and drinks and ready to watch. Now, one thing that my friend doesn’t know about me is that I’m a TOTAL BABY when it comes to action movies. Everything scares me! Yes, even a PG-Rated, Disney action movie scares me! My children have absolutely no idea what to do with me!
The movie was a GOOD family action, adventure movie. There was, however, quite a bit of guns and shooting. But, I don’t recall seeing anybody get killed. Not even the scary bounty hunter with the gooey, bubbly, and gross head. Well, that is until he possibly dies when he falls into a energy hole. In any event, nobody wants him to live! I think that a good age range for this movie would be ages 8/9 and up. Anything younger might not enjoy it.
From a Mom’s (ahem… woman’s) point of view, there was never a moment that I did not enjoy watching Dwayne Johnson flexing his biceps, triceps, and whatever other “ceps” he has! Oh, such a dish! My friend even made a great comment in the movie when Dr. Alex (Gugino) didn’t quite remember meeting Jack Bruno (Johnson) the cab driver. My friend said something along the lines of “Yeah, right! Like you wouldn’t remember meeting him!” Touche my friend, touche! If I had a cab-driver that looked like him, I’d make him drive us to the middle of the desert so that we’d run out of gas and be stranded in the night sky filled with stars. Oh, yes, he would be mine!
Did I like this movie? Yes. But, what I loved more was watching the four girls really enjoy themselves. We went to Johnny Rockets afterwards and the four of them had hamburgers and milkshakes in their own booth. They all really get along so nicely. Their mom’s not too shabby, either!
And, now for the popcorn rating. I asked the girls and I got varying answers. So, this one is up to me, I guess. Out of a total 5 bags o’ popcorn, for the genre Family/Action/Adventure, I give the movie:

Here’s a little movie preview for you to enjoy.

I remember both of the earlier movies, but really enjoyed Escape From Witch Mountain the most. I don’t know if I will see this one.

I loved the Witch Mountain movies when I was a child. I haven’t decided if I want to see the remake that just came out. I am glad you and your girls enjoyed it.

I’m sure I will have to see this one because I loved those With Mountain movies when I was a kid! Thanks for the review of it. I didn’t get to watch any movies this weekend as I was out and about.

It sounds like a great night out! I’m glad you all had fun. I loved the Disney movie too. I didn’t know there were two old versions. Dwayne Johnson is a hottie. I like him much better as an actor rather than that wrestling crap. His tattoos are cool too. He was on a show telling about the significance of the big one on his shoulder. I think it’s a tribal tattoo and he has symbols to represent all of the important people and stuff in his life.

I saw this was number 1 at the box office last weekend. I saw the original, too, and wondered if the re-make could be as good. Thanks for the review.

I probably won’t watch this one until I see the originals and I don’t plan on watching those until I read the book they’re based on lol.

I saw this last week, and I enjoyed it. I haven’t seen the original yet, but I don’t think it took anything away from this movie. But I will go back and watch.
