I had a wonderful weekend with my girls and with friends. I was able to just spend quality time with my kids, get my mani-pedi, and catch a movie with friends. It shall all be topped off with sleeping in on Sunday. Aaah, yes… a perfect weekend!

Challenges & Contests
THURSDAY’S THOUGHTS
I have continued this week’s Thursday’s Thoughts onto next week to March 19th. We didn’t have the response that I’d hoped for… unlike the previous week in which Shel Silverstein’s book was the prize. So… enter this week’s topic before the 19th to enter. It’s a fun topic… what would you study if you have the chance to? I’m currently going back to school, so your entries are really special and important to me!
OTHER CONTESTS
I announced the winner, Esther for the Book Giveaway Carnival’s Reader’s Delight Basket. I shipped off to her a basket filled with Losing Kei, Peony in Love, The Glass Castle, and The Makedown. In addition, Esther won a blankie, cozy socks, a BookCharmer from www.BookCharming.com, a Tea-For-One Set, and two boxes of tea! I hope that she loves it.
For those who are interested in Losing Kei, A GREAT DEAL is happening at the publisher’s house for this book. For the month of March, you can purchase Losing Kei for only $5! That’s right, $5! So, click HERE and get yourself a copy. You’ll be glad that you did!
Another really interesting tidbit… as part of the contest, the readers had to state which book they were the most excited about winning/liked the review the most. Here are the result of the contest entries:
The Glass Castle – 180 Votes
Snow Flower & The Secret Fan – 157 Votes
Losing Kei – 117 Votes
The Makedown – 85 Votes
Therefore, The Glass Castle wins with the most votes! But, Snow Flower was a close 2nd! This contest was the greatest contest that I’ve hosted at A Novel Menagerie with 517 comments and over 1500 hits to the post, alone. Thanks to Traci at Bookroom Reviews for hosting such a great carnival and thanks to all who participated!
READING CHALLENGES
For “Just For the Love Of It Reading Challenge” and “J. Kaye’s 100+ Book Challenge,” I’ve read 30 books so far year-to-date. WOW… that means that I’m 30% done with J. Kaye’s Challenge and we’re only 20.83% done with the year. I’m ahead by over 9%. Yippee!
For the participants of the Just For the Love of It Challenge, please remember to link your review posts for March HERE. I’ve been reading some great reviews on the Mr. Linky List. For some good recommendations, you can go to the sidebar and click onto a month and check out what’s been linked. There are some really good reviews to sink your teeth into. Not only that, but these are some really great blogs that you may want to subscribe to!
At Home & On TV
Dancing With The Stars has commenced and so have my weekly posts! Here’s the first one (HERE). American Idol was very good this week. I had pretty much pegged who was due to go. I’m all about Danny G., Lil’, and a few others. I’m hoping to do a review of this week’s face-off. My daughter, Cole, was surprised that “Dirty Diana” was a real Michael Jackson song.
I hit the movies and saw Escape From Witch Mountain tonight. Therefore, there will be a review on Monday’s Movie. I’m looking forward to your entries. Last week, we had some great ones!
Some bragging rights… Cole scored a goal today and DeeDee had two AMAZING saves at goalie today. The Killer Frogs take their first win! I’m such a proud Mommy… I really am!
I’m also going back to college. I saw a college counselor this week and I’m getting all of my ducks lined up in a row to get started on finishing up my BA. I’m considering a couple of different majors and am praying about it. Going back to college at nearly 40. Who knew?
Special friend hugs to Danielle and Lisa this week. I’m so grateful to have you in my life!
Thanks, all, for reading not only this post, but the others as well. Your readership means the world to me!

Sounds like you are having a fabulous relaxing weekend. You have also read quite a lot this week too. Congrats on your progress with J.Kaye book challenge. I a little behind you at 26 books, but ahead of the amount I need to be at, so that is good.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
You did have a great weekend! Emma has the flu here and it’s been raining constantly. Great for our new landscaping, but not so great for the spirit. We were spoiled by weather last weekend in the 83 degree range and sunny.
I have some books to add to the Just for the Love of It Challenge finally.
I need to go back into my review of Serendipity and add the graphic. In my frenzy to post it, I completely forgot – and I did with Go With Me, too. This week was such an energy sapper that I just wanted to get another post up. I know, excuses, excuses…
I hope that your Sunday is just as amazing as yesterday was.
Thanks for the heads-up on the $5 book sale! Losing Kei has been on my wish list for awhile, so I jumped on that one. Lucky for me that today is Sunday – I gave up buying books for Lent, but Sundays don’t count
.
Happy Sunday. I’m so glad you continued the Thursday Thoughts because I was going to answer and got distracted. My answer is posted now.
Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about witch mountain movie. We are about to introduce our son to the first one.
Have a good day!
How exciting that you are going back to college! I can’t wait to see what your major is, and I’m sure you’re going to do awesome!
I just finished writing the review on Witch Mountain. There’s a goodie in there for anybody born prior to 1970!
Sher
I’m glad you’re having a great weekend. I’m in college now and every class I take is usually one I’m interested in. Some of my favorite classes were my anthropology and literature classes. What are you currently taking?
RYC: Hey Sheri, regarding The Host being age appropriate for a 12 year old – I really don’t see why not. I truly believe that the only reason that this book is an “adult” vs “YA” is because the main character is 21 instead of in her teens like Bella is. Nothing to strong or sexual in nature occurs throughout the whole book (a few kissing scenes and that’s about it). The content is a bit tough since it basically is the end of the world as we know it, but if she/you can deal with that then yes, a 12 year old can definitely read it.

Congrats to the girls! And congrats to you for going back to college. That’s really awesome. I’ll be praying for you. Idol was good. I have two faves-Danny and Adam. Hmmmm, not watching Dancing with the Stars. I was going to but didn’t. Have a great week Sheri.
That’s awesome that you’re going back to school! Can’t wait to hear what you decide on for a major.
p.s. Fearghus is doing great! I’m working on a new post all about him.
