Thursday’s Thoughts: What Would You Study?

What Would I Study?

This week’s Thursday’s Thoughts Question of the Week asks:

If you could study a subject that you’ve never had the opportunity to learn, what would you choose?  This could be an academic class or the study of a specific skill or art.  Tell us your passion about it!

This is such an easy answer for me!  I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the piano.  In fact, I still do!  From an early age, I have been the musical type.  I’m completely and totally addicted to music.  I was a dancer from as far back as I can remember.  In addition to dancing, I was singing and acting my way through life.  I’ve obviously missed my window for it becoming anything that I can focus on, but I’ve done lots of  plays, shows, videos, concerts, and movie bits.  After I had the twins, my agent represented them for a while.  They did a season of Baywatch (playing one baby).  But, really… the music and the singing are just my personal EVERYTHING.  My kids think that I’m way too embarrassing because I sing very loudly in the car.  I just shake my head.  Three years ago they went ON and ON and ON about the fact that I should be on American Idol because I sing so good.  Now, I’m an embarrassment!

In any event, I love music and I adore singing!  Nothing would make me happier (and, most likely a much less frequent blogger) than to be able to sit down at a piano, play it, and sing.    I don’t see learning the piano as something that is completely out of reach for me, but I know that it’s an impossibility for where I am in life right now.

So… if I learn the piano… I already have a piano songbook of Tori Amos’ that I would play!  For those of you who don’t know… I’m a total and complete Tori Amos FREAK!  I own all of her musics and videos.  I never miss a concert that I can get to via car.   She’s just the BOMB!  her new album is being released on May 19th (the twins’ birthday…).  I CANNOT WAIT!

Thanks for posting my response — I totally spaced it off until just now (3 hours after the deadline). I am really hoping that spring break gets me back on track.

I hope you have the opportunity to pursue your piano dreams someday. While I could probably “plunk” out a tune if I really tried — it has truly been decades since I actually played. I do really enjoy listening to a great jazz pianist though :)

If only I could play piano like Tori Amos! But since that will never happen, I really want to learn Russian.

You know, I took piano lessons for about 12 years when I was growing up, but now I rarely touch one–and I have NO excuse!! My parents gave me the piano I learned on when I got a house. One of these days I’m going to get back in the habit…

I also wanted to tell you that I’ve nominated you and your blog for an award here.

I have pitch and a good sense of music and my husband is mathematical… we both love music, but zero ability to play squat. Both of our daughters are amazing pianists and compete and play sonatas and all that stuff. D and I just look at each other and go, huh? I would love to be able to sit down at the piano and play. I feel as if I should be able to… my daughter has give me a couple of piano lessons but I’m hopeless! I hope you get to give it a try sometime… I bet you’d do great.

I love to sing too-I’m actually part of a local women’s choir and we have a concert tomorrow night. Playing the piano is something that I have always dreamed of also! We can learn anything if we set our minds to it.

What a fun post :) I would love to study Italian. I love everything Italian. It would be a dream come true to study the language and then go live in a villa for a year…..ahhhhhh, I’d have such a great time!

Actually, I have been learning to play piano since Jan. It does take daily practice sessions but it is so worth it. When I’m feeling low I practice piano to feel better. I hope you pursue it when you are able to.

I think mine would probably be mythology. I studied on my own all throughout middle and high school.

I can’t really sing that well but I took a couple of years of chorus.

I was going to answer this last week, but for some reason got distracted. I am currently trying to finish my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts through Excelsior College. I’m enjoying taking classes that interest me such as film and literature, geology, and currently Art history. Next up will be Modern Literature. Way back when I originally went to a brick and mortar college, I was doing it to get that degree, get the job, satisfy the parents, etc. Now I’m doing it for me and enjoying it. And speaking of which I need to quit blogging for a bit and do some homework. Have a great Sunday.

I’ve played piano since a young age, though I don’t have a piano to play anymore. My nana taught me…though i can’t say I was good enough to play with both hands, but my right hand can read the keys perfectly. My cousin is much better at piano than I and plays at her church, or at least she used to.

I really should get back into piano…I really loved it.

P.S. I’m a TORI FREAK too! I cannot wait for the new album!
