Monday’s Movie: Nights In Rodanthe
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
I invite everybody to participate in the weekly MEME and write about any movies, television or big screen, that you’ve seen over the past week and write about it. Please feel free to use the above logo photo in your post and/or link back to the site. I will post every Sunday Night or Monday Morning on the movie I’ve seen from the past week. I’m hoping that there are other movie buffs out there who will enjoy the MEME as much as I’m hoping to! The only small request that I have is that you rate the movie out of 5 bags of popcorn (so, 1 bag out of 5, 2 bags out of 5, and so on).

Nights In Rodanthe

Starring: Richard Gere, Diane Lane, Scott Glenn, Christopher Meloni, Viola Davis
Directed By: George C. Wolfe
Time: 1 Hour, 37 Minutes
Rating: PG-13
Studio: Warner Bros.
I read the reviews on this movie. They were not as favorable as I’d hoped. After all, I’m a die-hard Nicholas Sparks fan. Who can forget the books and their movies: A Walk to Remember, Message in a Bottle, & The Notebook? Certainly, I never will. I hoped and expected this to be equivalent.
Sometimes, when you read a book or see a movie, your mood while absorbing it has a lot to do with your impression of it. I think I was in the mood to fully absorb this movie with all of my heart and with my walls down. Despite the C+/B ratings that Yahoo gave this movie, I wept. I was moved. I understood Adrian’s love and grief. I felt it. And, like Nicholas Sparks, I still believe in true love… the kind that has the power to make you believe that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
The premise of this movie is simple… a broken man and a broken woman meet in the worst of circumstances, neither of them looking for love. Yet, despite the plagues that haunt them, they break through barriers and find love of the truest sort. Their lives and responsibilities tear them apart as their love is newly discovered. When they are finally ready to reunite, tragedy falls.
Have you ever felt love… the type that sweeps your entire soul away? Have you completely lost yourself, entangled in your lover’s soul? How does that love impact you? These are the thoughts I had during this film and in the aftermath. As I watched, I was reminded of times in my life that I know will last my heart an eternity and I wondered to myself when Richard Gere’s character, Paul, asked Adrian (Diane Lane), “Who keeps you safe?”
Love and romance are something that I’ll always choose to believe in. Good romance novels and movies will most likely always get a tug at my heart… because I’m a believer. If you’re like me… you’ll like Nights In Rodanthe. If you’re in a place in your life where you can’t believe in love, when love seems sappy, where romance seems impossible… I’m not sure you’ll find the beauty in this movie. In such case… I think you’re better served with another flick. But, if you’re open to it, this is a good film. Diane Lane and Richard Gere have a natural comfort with one another… most likely a remnant from Unfaithful. Richard Gere is sexy as all will get out… at least I think so… but, I love grey hair on a man! Yum! Diane Lane grabbed at my heart strings when she reads Paul’s unsent letter… 2 Kleenex.
Rating: Out of 5 Bags O’ Popcorn…

I have not seen this movie yet, but it is on my to-do list. I just love Nicky Sparks’ books and movies. I think this one will be a good one. I will have to check it out.

I’m in the other category, I really didn’t like this movie, of course I really didn’t like Message in a Bottle or Walk to Remember either. At least in Walk to Remember we knew it was coming. I hate it when the author kills off one of the couple. In defense of all who liked it though, I might be missing some essential girl part of my dna…I don’t like romance novels, and tragic love stories usually irritate me. I love romantic comedies, though, they all end happy!!

I haven’t seen this one yet, but I have added it to my Netflix so it is just a matter of time. I have heard mixed reviews of this one but I loved Message in a Bottle…although I was annoyed when they made Kevin Costner die on me-I mean, who does that?!
I’m glad you liked it.

Jo-Jo, nobody should make our Kevie die… it’s like nobody should put Baby in the corner! He’s just too dead sexy to die. At one point, my ex-husband resembled him… Maybe that’s why I was with him!

Kelly,
What about The Notebook? Did you like that movie?
Oh… how I wish I could convert you!

Okay, so I didn’t really care for this one, but I DID like the love story. It was the acting (pretty much everyone’s besides Gere and Lane’s) that disappointed me. Nice review, Sher!
