I invite everybody to participate in the weekly MEME and write about any movies, television or big screen, that you’ve seen over the past week and write about it.  Please feel free to use the above logo photo in your post and/or link back to the site.  I will post every Sunday Night or Monday Morning on the movie I’ve seen from the past week.  I’m hoping that there are other movie buffs out there who will enjoy the MEME as much as I’m hoping to!  The only small request that I have is that you rate the movie out of 5 bags of popcorn (so, 1 bag out of 5, 2 bags out of 5, and so on).

He’s Just Not That Into You

Today’s Monday Movie is featured at Literarily.  Shana viewed & reviewed He’s Just Not That Into You.  I read the book years ago and am looking forward to seeing the movie.  I just love Ginnfer Goodwin!  She’s my favorite on Big Love

Please visit Shana’s review (HERE) and check out her thoughts on the movie.  I mean… how bad can it be with Ginnfer, Scarlett, Drew and Jennifer?  Not bad at all!

The Academy Awards

Click (HERE) for a complete list of the winners.  I’ll share just a few thoughts on the Academy Awards last night…

I’m just thrilled that the two main categories that I were focused on turned out as I’d hoped.  Kate Winslet won for Best Actress (Yeah… Clap Clap Clap) and Slum Dog Millionaire won for Best Movie (YEAH YEAH YEAH).  I just loved watching the children who played Jamal, Salim and Latika on stage (so sweet)!  I liked the Bollywood dance number to the music as well.  I really dig that song… time to grab it off iTunes.

I’m a bit confused about Sean Penn’s speech.  What in the world was he talking about when discussing Mickey O’Rourke?  And, did he notice that he forgot to say “thanks” to his wife?  Unless she is the “best friend” that he first acknowledges.  She looked very pretty last night, BTW.   Did anybody notice Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer sitting behind them?  How long has it been since Brad/Angelina and Jennifer/John have been in the same room together?  I read that Jennifer avoided the red carpet altogther.

Who’s dress was your favorite?  I liked Marissa Tomei’s, Sarah Jessica Parker’s, and Kate Winslet’s.

I also liked the way that the awards were given for best actress and best actor.  Although, I had trouble understanding what Anthony Hopkins was mumbling about.  Overall, I think that it was a bit “over the top” with compliments to the actors/actresses.  I mean, these are just human beings, people… not GODS!  It’s acting, not heart surgery.

Another thing that I’m stewing on.  Most of the best movies out there are based on books.  Why don’t books get the same type of FANFARE as movies?  It’s art.  I’m wondering… maybe us bloggers should set up an annual awards event.  It won’t be the Pulitzer… but, I’m sure many of the authors and publishers would be excited to win!  Just a thought.

I have no movie to review this week, however here’s Mr. Linky.  When I spot somebody’s review today, I’ll come back and highlight/spotlight them!

Please add your reviews into Mr. Linky!

I didn’t watch the Oscars at all this year. I was pouting a little bit, because I really thought Gran Torino was a terrific movie and deserved something. But mostly, I’m reading Jodi Picoult’s newest and its so good I have trouble putting it down!

I loved Heidi Klum’s red dress. I think it was my favorite.

I also really liked Marion Cotillard’s dress. And the purple dresses: Natalie Portman and Alicia Keyes. They really stood out.

I always think Angelina looks fantastic, even though the red carpet commenters said her dress was boring!

    Hi Sheri,

What a great idea. I’ll fix my post to link to your blog and apply a rating. Thanks.

I said I wasn’t going to watch the Oscars, but I did watch a little. I noticed Penn forgot to thank Robin Wright Penn, but a lot of people forget to thank their spouse. He was probably trying so hard to remember to say something about the homophobes outside of the Oscars protesting that he forgot to mention her. I thought Kate Winslet’s speech was too adorable especially when she recounted herself giving an Oscar speech at 8 years old and the Oscar statuette was a shampoo bottle.

I noticed Entertainment Tonight tried to make a huge fuss about Brad & Angelina and Jen & John. But there was nothing much to tell. I probably would want to avoid bumping into my ex-husband on Oscar night, too. I mean, wouldn’t everyone? And it is not like Brangelina could avoid the red carpet since they are who they are and they were nominated. She handled herself well when presenting I thought. People make such a big fuss about this, but really, how many ex-spouses without children do you see not making an effort to bump into each other?

I also saw on ET Cojo (I hate his voice) doing the best and worst dressed. He listed Angelina, who I thought, while elegant and I loved her earrings, did a basic black dress and should not have been listed. Penelope Cruz’s vintage was gorgeous and Marisa Tomei looked great, too. I loved Queen Latifah’s dress and did not notice anyone talking about it. I did not like Jessica Biel’s dress. What was that? And Nicole Kidman should try to put some more color into her life, as gorgeous as she is, she always looks better in color. And Sophia Loren looked like she had way too much collagen put into her lips.

I actually really liked the way they presented the nominees for actors and actresses. People need to know why they were nominated over someone else. We write book reviews and go gaga all over authors, why not for actors? No, they should not be revered as gods, but when praise is due, it should be delivered. Shirley McClain delivered a wonderful one to Anne Hathaway and hers was the only one whose delivery seemed genuine in any way. And Robert DeNiro was pretty funny. Adrian Brody looked god-awful (was that hair for a role or just how he was wearing it?) and lost his place when he was reading and had to pause for forever. I think it is nice to have past winners in the category talk about you and to present the award. I would probably want the same thing if I were nominated. How amazing that would feel to have someone you look up to in your field say something nice about you in front of all of your peers? You would feel amazing even if you did not win.

Just my thoughts on it. I have not seen Slumdog Millionaire but people seem to love it. I will have to put it on my Netflix queue.

Rebecca… I agree with you on the flattery. But, it seems like some of the speeches were like a bit tooo much. It just seemed a bit too much of the egos for me (the presenters). We love them, bravo, we’re watching the Oscars… they’re rich because of us. I don’t know… just rubbed me wrong. Slum Dog deserved the win. It was great. Nicole is just way to pasty white. She did need a darker dress. They are now speculating another pregnancy due to her itty bitty bump. I, too, loved Kate’s speech and when she had her dad whistle!

I won’t write a post about it, but last night I saw the 60s movie The Chase. It has Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda, and Robert Redford. And Robert Duvall and Angie Dickensen. But it is WIERD. And confusing.
