The Writer’s Block: What Do You Like In Your Blog?

writers-block-anm-post-sizeThere are times that I wonder if I’m “on-target” in what I’m writing about in my blog.  That is, as far as my readers are concerned.  I know what I enjoy ranting and raving about, but are those posts what you want to see on this blog?

Being primarily involved with the book review blogging community, I find that I need to write about more than just the books in my life and the reading of them.  I need my blog to be more of an expression of who I am.  But, is too much of “the other stuff” not really wanted on the blog by my readers?

So, I’m asking… and, I hope that you’ll reply!  Do you enjoy the myriad of posts (i.e. headlines, movies, tv, and personal) or are the book review posts really your only interest?   What parts of the blog do you enjoy the most?  What would you like to see more of… and, less of?  Or, are we “just the right reading mix” for your taste?

F0r those of you who participate in Thursday’s Thoughts, can you share the same?   I’m seeing the weekly MEME wane out again and I would love to figure out how to be actively involved in something that people look forward to (like Weekly Geeks, or Friday Fill-Ins, or Mailbox Mondays).

Thank you for taking the time to let me know your thoughts on how I can grow into a better blogger and provide the best blog possible.

Best regards!

I write mostly book reviews, although I participate in some memes like Booking Thru Thursday and others. I do the memes for community involvement; what I don’t do is any excessive marketing stuff. I just love writing the reviews and hope people read them! :-)

When I first stumbled upon the book blog world, I was thrilled to read so many book reviews that I could use to expand my somewhat limited book collection. What I did NOT expect – but is a wonderful fringe benefit of these blogs – is to find personal connection with others out there. While you and I first found a connection with our love of labs – I have absolutely loved getting to know the ‘novel menagerie” on a personal level. I think without your feisty commentary, fun rants, and insights into your personal life, the book blog world would eventually become tiresome for me. At this point I crave the connection as much as I crave the book knowledge. Please do not change a thing about your posts.

Sheri, I do enjoy the personal side of your blog more than anything else, but that is just me. I love books, but my reading preferences are really limited, so whilst I enjoy the reviews, I don’t read them often because I will probably never buy the books your review.

I think the most important thing about a blog is that it represents you and what you want to say… whether it is sharing headlines, movies or and kind of rant. To try to please others will exhaust yourself. Whenever I tried to do that, my reader numbers dried up quite a bit. I had purposed my blog to glorify Jesus, whether through the ups and downs of my life, and whether I talked about non-Christian topics, I would always seek to keep it according to my convictions. It is who I am and I wanted that part of my life to flow onto my blog. People can take or leave it.

You’re doing a great job! Popularity can come in waves too, I noticed, as in some weeks are quieter than others. Just be yourself.

Even though I’ve been a terrible commenter, I read your blog on my reader and really do enjoy all of your posts!

Sheri, I haven’t been visiting long but I love your blog as it is. Personally I love the rantings and ravings. lol. They add a spark to my day. I really enjoy the personal side too. I’m trying to figure out a way to incorporate them somehow on my blog.

I like the personal side too. I love book reviews, I do. But I love blogs where I feel like I get to know the person behind the blog. :) So whether that personality is revealed in memes, personal posts, or reviews of books or movies or tv shows…it doesn’t much matter to me.

It’s your blog my dear and you post what you want. I have seen other bloggers do these surveys and it breaks my heart. I don’t even want to tell you what I like about your blog (there is plenty) because I want you to decide what you want to express here. I couldn’t just blog about books either, I was starting to dislike reading so I discovered mom reviews and product reviews which is easy and fun. I’m not the best writer so that fits for me. You are a talented writer, keep it up!

I wanted to let you know I tried to get your guest post up today, but blogger is fighting me, so I had to take it back down. I’m going to mess with it and hopefully have it up in the morning!

I enjoy the mix you provide. I myself don’t have the time or inclination right now to do more than book reviews on my blog, but I truly enjoy the wide variety of posts you provide. Keep it up!

As soon as you start writing for your readership you lose a degree of authenticity. Let your blog continue to be a vehicle of self expression and readers will be drawn to you. Your blogging personality comes across as fun and well rounded. Don’t change a thing.

I think your blog is great as is. I think people should write about what they want to write about, and readers can choose to read or not to read. I normally do book reviews on my blog, but I participate in Mailbox Monday and memes when I’ve been tagged. Sometimes I’ll post about other things and mention personal stuff, but not too often because honestly my life is not that exciting. LOL

I rally enjoy many of your posts and I think you have the right mix here at the Menagerie. I am participating in Thursday’s Thoughts for the first time this week. I was excited. I usually fall behind in these memes and by the time I have an idea the week has passed by.
