Current Headlines: A “Unique” Sort of Love
Granny Married A Tranny…
From LemonDrop.Com, I read this (ah-hem) interesting article. According to the article:
“Edna and Simon were married in England back in 2005. They’re not so much a May-December romance as a January-December one: At 73 and 35, Edna is nearly 40 years older than Simon.”
Apparently, they met due to their love of the organ, both being players. He also has two medical conditions: dyslexic and dyspraxic (“Dyspraxia is a disorder that affects motor skill developments. Those with Dyspraxia have difficulty performing simple every day tasks that most people take for granted.”).
Apparently, Edna’s children are older than her hubby. In addition, according to Edna, their love life is red hot. In the article on MailOnline.com (which, by the way has lots of pictures):
Nearly four years into the marriage, the lovebirds are as besotted as ever.Obviously, there is one thing about Edna and Simon Martin that everyone wants to know.
When we met in Cornwall I asked Edna whether, given the age gap, their marriage might be more of a, how should I put this, spiritual union than a physical one. She very quickly put me straight on that.
But perhaps now, after the passing of time, those fiery, uncontrollable passions that inflamed them both have settled down?
‘Good God, no,’ says Edna, licking Simon’s nose. ‘Our relationship has the same passion as a pair of 25-year-olds. We kiss about 150 times a day.
‘We hold hands all the time - we even sleep holding hands.’
‘Yes, we’re still crazy about one another,’ confirms Simon, as Edna pats his bottom.
What about Simon’s mother - has she got used to Edna yet? ‘Yes, it was a little strange for her at first,’ says Simon, ‘but she’s OK with it now.’ “
150 times in a day! I wonder if this is what Phil Collins was writing about in the song “Groovy Kind of Love?”
But, it keeps getting stranger (my-oh-my…). From the Birmingham Post on July 28, 2005, readers can enjoy this interesting tidbit:
“Granny lover’s ‘tranny’ past
A 31-year-old organ enthusiast who hit the headlines two weeks ago after marrying a 70-year-old grandmother, lived a secret double life as a transvestite called Sarah, it emerged yesterday.
Simon Martin, originally from Cradley Heath in Dudley, married pensioner Edna Townsend, amidst a storm of controversy concerning the couple age’s gap at a ceremony at Weston-super-Mare register office at the beginning of July.
The pair met through their mutual love of Hammond Organs and despite the age gap, Simon, who had never had a girlfriend before, said it was love at first sight.
Simon, an organ player, who suffers from a severe hearing impediment, proposed to Edna under Weston-super-Mare pier on Valentine’s Day this year.
But it has emerged that in his youth Simon lived a secret life as an avid cross-dresser called Sarah and still enjoys occasionally dressing up in his new wife’s frocks to this day. He said his love of crossdressing began in his midtwenties when he was living at home with his parents in the Midlands.
Simon said: “At the time I genuinely thought I was a transvestite. I thought I had an alter ego as such.
“I wore all sorts of things, everything from glamorous evening wear to everyday clothes.”
He added that he now only puts on women’s clothes in the privacy of his own home.
Speaking about her husband’s cross dressing antics, grandmother-of-three Edna said: “If he wants to dress up in a green caterpillar suit with pink flip flops what does it matter. I don’t give a monkey’s.
“He lived with his parents for 30 years and did the teenage thing when he was 25 and developed much later. He was totally isolated.”
The couple have a framed picture of Simon in make-up wearing one of Edna’s dresses in the front room of their home in Worle, Somerset.
Simon and Edna discussed his taste for cross-dressing before they decided to get married.
He said he no longer thinks of himself as a strict transvestite, adding: “What I was actually was a cross-dresser. I enjoyed the feeling of clothing. It is not quite the same as a transvestite.”

I guess there is a reason they say, “truth is stranger than fiction” or “you can’t make this stuff up”. But good for them. I like that they are so loving and communicative about what’s going on with them.
