This Week’s TV In Review

Monday Night Madness

I am a huge Monday Night TV watcher.  I have no idea why.  Most nights I spend reading or writing, but Mondays get me on the couch… BIG TIME!  This week, we saw the season opener of  The Bachelor on ABC.

This Season's Bachellor: Jason
This Season’s Bachelor: Jason

OK… so, he’s a single dad and there are some bachelorettes that have children.  Great, ABC is finally getting smarter. But, what I’d really like to see is a middle-aged The Bachelor… like 45 or so with 35-40-something year old regular women with regular bodies.  Well, maybe someday.  In any event, Jason was not chosen by DeAnna Pappas on last season’s The Bachelorette and was heart-broken.  She picked Jesse.  They seemed so in love, but NO… they did break up.  Boy, did she make a mistake by blowing it with Jason.  But, from the previews of upcoming episodes, we see that DeAnna makes a come-back to tell Jason that she screwed up on her decision.  I can’t wait for that because he’ll probably shoot her down like a dead duck.

Here are the gals that I like:

Molly

Molly

Stephanie

Stephanie

Emily
Emily

Molly just seems like a very down-to-earth, cool chick!  Stephanie lost her husband in a plane crash when her baby was 10 weeks old.  She’s very classy and I just like her energy.  Emily is just so gosh-darn cute and is from Washington State, where Jason is from.

Who I don’t really care for:

Jillian the Hot Dog Girl
Jillian the Hot Dog Lady who keeps saying that it’s important to know what a man puts on his pork.
Nikki with her boobies always hanging out
Nikki with her boobies always hanging out

But, I guess that it doesn’t really matter who I like… it’s who Jason likes.  So, I may choose to change my preferences on who I like, but for week 1… that’s my review.

After The Bachelor is a show called True Beauty produced by Ashton Kutcher and Tyra Banks.  It has these so-called “beautiful people” competing for America’s Greatest Beauty.  What, in the end, they are supposedly being judged on is whether their inner beauty matches their outer beauty.

Here’s a snipet:

So, the people who I like are: Billy, the GNC Vitamin Store owner… I’ve actually met him several years ago when I was in Lewiston, Idaho while working for a client of mine looking for some retail space.  He didn’t blow me away in person, but he was cute.  I also like Monique… she’s funky and fun.

Julia, the pageant queen, well, I like her eyelash extensions but am on the fence about her personality.  Ashley… I can take her or leave her, too.

Who I can do without:  Laura Lee the swimsuit model who loves herself entirely too much, Joel the software salesman who is totally consumed with his birthday suit, CJ the proud, sexy black man with incredible “DNA”, Chelsea who thinks that she is just the cat’s meow and isn’t, Hadiyyah-Lah who thought she was the most beautiful person in the country who was later voted off, and Ray the artist who thinks that girls like cocky guys.

The show is hosted by Vanessa Minnillo (girlfriend of Nick Lachey) and the judges are Cheryl Tiegs and Nole Marin.  If you did not see the first episode, just by watching what’s above, you can EASILY pick up next week.  This show is somewhat ridiculous, but I just need those shows to get my brain off serious stuff.

The Spineless and Their Moms

The Spineless and Their Moms

The other Monday Night Madness show that I like is NBC’s Momma’s Boys produced by Ryan Seacrest.  I just love watching these helicopter moms making complete fools of themselves.  In addition, you see their sons complete slaves to their hormones, but then sub-coming to Mom’s wishes in the end… it’s all very spineless.  I like the Robb (in black suit in photo), who is Jewish and likes Camilla, an African-American girl.  Camilla tries to understand the Jewish Hanukkah tradition and learn to be a part of his holiday customs despite the racial differences.   She really seems to like him a lot.  His mother is, of course, bothered because she’s African-American and not Jewish.  She tries to guilt Robb into not dating her because her family were second generation survivors of the Holocaust and that their culture and heritage is more important than anything.  Dumb!

But, she’s not the only prejudice mother, JoJo’s mom is a complete freak about her son making out with an African-American girl.  That’s just totally insane to me.  She gets into an argument with this girl before her date with JoJo (in blue striped shirt in photo) and insults her for her racial background.  After an afternoon in the hot tub, making out with her, spineless JoJo eliminates her because she “disrespected his mother.”  Well, yeah… after his mom attacked her first!  And, when she came home from the date, the MOM apologized for her insane behavior.   Spineless, I tell you.  This entire show is just like watching a train-wreck… I can’t help myself.

Michael is the other wimp of a man (top guy in photo… blondish hair).  He’s just a moron whose looks will fail him soon enough and he’ll be bald.  He’s really not that cute and these blonde bombshells are drooling all over him.  ICK!  Wait until he finds out that his mother’s favorite girl is the 2008 Penthouse Pet of the Year!

The only thing this show is missing is a young African-American stud muffin and his mother.  Then, we can see if his mom would be all freaky about the racial prejudice stuff, too.  Just goes to show that people aren’t over racial and sexual prejudices… it’s such a shame.  What a waste of energy!

What I’ve DVR’d, but not watched is Superstars of Dance.  I’m going to watch it this weekend.

Wednesday Night’s Shows

Wednesday night was the People’s Choice Awards.  I just wanted to give a few shout outs:
  • Yeah, to Queen Latifah, for changing out of that purple dress.  With the back-fat hanging over the top of it, it just wasn’t flattering.. at all.
  • Carrie Underwood… YOU ARE SMOKIN’, GIRL!  Her green dress in her vocal performance was gorgeous.  I’m getting her album now! Congrats on all of the awards… you deserve it!
  • Rascal Flatts… oh, you are all married and I love you all!  LOVE LOVE LOVE!
  • Christina Applegate… you looked elegant.  I loved you.
  • Kate Hudson… you reminded me so much of your mother in your speech that it was spookay!  Your dress seemed to give you issues, though.  And, why were you late?
  • Ellen Degeneres… for your stab at Prop 8 by calling Portia your “roommate.”
  • Kid Rock… BOOOO.  For God’s Sake… take off those sunglasses (that’s why you’re getting the BOOO)
  • Robin Williams… I just don’t know how I feel about your performance at all.
  • Seal… I just love you.  Your voice is like silk.
  • Katherine Heigl… didn’t love your speech.  There was much more to the movie than just you.  Your ego was too large on this one, Katie-Kins.
  • Jordin Sparks…. loved watching you boogie to Rascal Flatts!

This week’s show that just kicked my emotional tushie was the Barbara Walter’s Special with Patrick Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemi.  It just killed me to see Patrick so thin and his wife so visibly crushed by her soulmate’s illness.  I have to commend Patrick for his love for life and passion to kick this disease’s butt.  But, it’s hard to look at an actor that you love and see such a stong man being attacked by this disease…it was just hard.  BTW:  Doesn’t Lisa look a bit like a younger Barbara in this picture…?

I’m off to watch my DVR episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice… both shows are regulars for me.  If you have any show suggestions for review, please feel free to leave me a comment below.

I haven’t been interested in much TV lately. I’m so tired of reality shows. I am excited that Lost starts on the 21! Yay!

I did see a fun new show on Monday. It’s Canadian- I’m not sure where you are. It’s called Being Erica.

I don’t normally watch these shows, but got sucked into them when I wasn’t feeling well Monday. My migraine was mostly gone, but not good enough to read, so I listened to Inner Beauty and Momma’s Boys, along with The Secret Life of the American Teenager, in a darkened room. Inner Beauty was hilarious! I decided to watch the end of Inner Beauty instead of Momma’s Boys, so I didn’t see who got voted off. I can’t believe Jo-Jo sided with his mom!

I also watched parts of the Patrick Swayze show, but after a while it was too depressing and I picked up a book. It’s the most tv I’ve watched in months.

I am such a fan of The Bachelor. I like Jason but I agree it would be nice to see a middle age man with normal women for once. My favorite is Stephanie, she grabbed my heart from the beginning with her story and she seems so classy. Things could get interesting with DeAnna coming back though. Some of those previews looked like things were getting dicey.

I LOVED Carries’ green dress too…stunning!

My friends and I had memorized nearly every line in Dirty Dancing and the Patrick Swayze special was just soooooo sad.

Just serves to remind us tho’ that EACH DAY IS A GIFT….and we need to live like that because we never know when we will take our last breath.

I’m not a fan of reality television. The night I get sucked in is Thursday: Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, and now Private Practice! I will never get anything done on a Thursday night again!
