Thursday’s Thoughts: Just One Question

Thursday’s Thoughts is a weekly MEME posted on Sunday and runs through the Thursday of that week.  Thursday’s Thoughts has a different question each week with the intent to provoke thoughts and connect bloggers and readers from all walks of life together on a random topic.  In the past, we’ve had topics about dreams, classroom subjects, holiday experiences, blogging madness, and all sorts of goodies.

Currently, the Thursday’s Thoughts MEME has a contest which accompanies it.  The prize varies week by week.

My goal is to have Thursday’s Thoughts become a regular weekly MEME for our blogging community… (1) so we can meet new bloggers, (2) so that we can learn new things about each other, and (3) to “spice” up our topics beyond the books that we are reading.

This past week, the MEME turnout was not as strong as I’d hoped based on the traffic numbers that it’s getting.  So… either my topics suck… or the prize sucks… or, I don’t know why?!?!  So, I have a few ideas on “sprucing it up”…

1. Let the winner of the week’s Thursday’s Thoughts choose the question for the following week’s MEME

2.  Dropping the prize component of the weekly MEME and award a prize for the month’s greatest post

3.  The winner of the MEME gets a highlight post on A Novel Menagerie’s site as a weekly prize.

I don’t know the answer.. but, I would really like to “revive” Thursday’s Thoughts and make it a great MEME for 2009, if you are interested.  If not, that’s cool, too… we can let it R.I.P.  Please let me know your thoughts…. the more candid, the better!

Here’s this week’s Thursday’s Thoughts:

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

If you could ask that one famous Hollywood Star ONE question…

what would it be?

Some of my favorite stars are depicted above.  It would be a toss up between:

Vivian, what was it like to kiss Clark Gable?

Marilyn, if you could do it all again… would you?

Julia, which is harder: being a mother or twins or being a world-famous movie star?

Tom, exactly how do you feel about being best known for dancing in your underwear?

Meg, what is it like to have women imitate your orgasm?

Lucy, is Desi  your soulmate?

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

This rules to this week’s Thursday’s Thoughts:

  • Post your answer in a comment on www.ThursdaysThoughts.wordpress.com … 1 entry
  • Post your answer on your blog with a picture of your favorite Hollywood Star… 2 entries
  • Post your answer on your blog with a picture of your favorite Hollywood Star and link it back to Thursday’s Thoughts with the Thursday’s Thoughts Logo… 3 entries
  • Sign up with Mr. Linky (at bottom of post)… 1 additional entry
  • Subscribe to automatic feed for Thursday’s Thoughts… 1 additional entry
  • Contest starts January 4th and ends on January 15th at 7pm PST

DON’T FORGET TO LEAVE A COMMENT SO I KNOW YOU ENTERED!

This week’s prize… a DVD of your choice OR a book about a movie or television star!

Don’t be discouraged! I hope to participate some weeks at least. I don’t always remember to check out each week’s question in time. And some weeks I’m very interested in the question, and other weeks not so much. But I think it’s a very cool idea for the blogging community.

For Will Smith, do you and Jada really have an OPEN marriage and exactly what does that mean?

I agree with Becky. It can be hard to get people to participate. Some topics interest me more than others…for example I’m not into movie stars at all, so I would have no idea what to answer for this one.

I have you in my reader and check out the site often though…keep pressing on.

I like the idea of a weekly meme with (or even without) a monthly prize. I look forward to the meme each week, but then I go and check it out and see that I don’t have to post for several more days and I procrastinate. Next thing you know the date has come and gone. I think once you figure out what works, those of us with procrastination problems will get in the habit of doing the meme with more regularity.

Since I already commented with my answer, can I still post it on my blog this week for extra entries? How bad of a time will you give me if I procrastinate and forget again? :) Just kidding!

Also, I know as a book blogger I get used to doing memes that are mainly book-focused for my blog. I like throwing in something fun and non-bookish now and then, but that may be an issue for some book bloggers.

    I posted in a comment on http://www.ThursdaysThoughts.wordpress.com
I would ask Elvis Presley: What’s your biggest regret in your life?

I don’t know what to say other than people sometimes are affected by real life and are unable to make their weekly blog rounds. The weather can interfere with internet connections like in the Northwest right now with the flooding. But next week will be better, just wait and see!

I just add you to my google reader.

I dunno… I don’t need a prize, just a fun question, and people to chat with in the comments trail. That’s what makes a good meme to me.

I can’t even pick a celebrity, except maybe Axl Rose, and the only thing I could POSSIBLY ask is, “What the fuck?”

I can’t even elaborate beyond that, sad to say. That man is a total mystery.

I actually looked at this yesterday, but I just don’t have any questions for movie stars. I don’t think a prize is necessary, but it is a nice idea.

Like Alyce mentioned, it is fun to have discussions outside of books and I like the weekly question!
My star would be Tom Selleck and I would ask him if during the time he lived on Diamond Head (in Hawaii) did he ever notice me jogging by his house ….like everyday?! And if so, then why in the heck didn’t he come out and introduce himself or join me in jogging!
    Thanks for the fun!

I agree with Becky and Jaclyn. It can be hard to get people to participate. And it’s probably even harder to come up with interesting questions! As for this one, I’m not into movie stars at all, so I wouldn’t know what to answer.
