Book Review: Eldest by Christopher Paolini by Nicole

My friends, this is a book review by my daughter, Nicole.  In our house we have a rule: before Mom buys you another book, you must first write a report about the book that you just finished.  Both Cole and Dee read this book and are reading its sequel, Brisinger.  It’s a 3-book series and this is the 2nd of the 3 books.  The first is Eragon, which was made into a movie.  This book review isn’t in my standard review format as she wrote it from her heart and with her own imagination.

                                            ELDEST

        Darkness falls…

            Swords clash…

                Evil reigns…

Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have just saved the rebel state from destruction by the mighty forces of King Galbatorix, cruel ruler the Empire. During the battle of saving the rebel, he defeated one of Galbatorix’ greatest defenses, a shade named Durza. Durza had inflicted a great wound upon Eragon a gash from his upper back down to his center back, which put him into a very weak state. In the beginning, Eragon’s friend who is the ruler of the Varden, Ajihad, was killed in a surprise Urgal attack. Also, Eragon’s best friend, Murtagh, and twins, who were great magicians, were dragged away by the Urgals and supposedly killed. Now, Eragon must travel to Ellesmera, Land of the Elves, to learn more magic and greater swordsmanship.

During this time, Roran (Eragon’s cousin) is hunted by Rasac and they begin a battle. The battle may just endanger Eragon even more. Also, Roran asks the women he loves, Katrina, to marry him and she says, “yes.” When Roran and Sloan (Katrina’s father) disagree, Katrina has to chose between family or love.  She chooses love. Then that night Roran was attacked by the Urgals and Katrina was kidnapped by them.  When a group of men go to save her, they realize Sloan had betrayed them and so the Urgals stole Katrina and Sloan and took them to one of their hiding places.

During Eragon’s stay in Ellesmeara, he learned a secret that even Galbatorix did not know and that secret had been kept for years. Eragon learns that the elves had kept an elf rider secret from the whole world. Eragon and Saphira were very elated that they weren’t the only last dragon and rider except Galbatorix. The other rider was named Oromis and his dragon Glaedr. Oromis was to teach Eragon magic and Glaedr was to teach Saphira better flight skills. During the training, Saphira begins to believe that Glaedr will be her mate for she had no other knowledge of another dragon and she was so delighted that there was another dragon that she began to fall for Glaedr. Then, when she asked Glaedr to be hers, he said, “no.” So, she attacked him and they got into a fight.

When Eragon hears about the Agate Blodhren and that he had to write a poem.  He then wrote one about his life. During the Agaeti Blodhren, the elves did one of their most custom traditions and something happened that never happened before when the dragon ghost came it healed all of Eragon from head to toe. Now Roran has convinced the villagers to follow him to a better place to live. When they leave they have to kill, threaten, meet friends, and learn hard secrets that had never been known before. Then, on the way, Roran finds out about the battle and rushes to help. When Eragon learns that a battle is forming between the Varden and Galbatorix, he rushes back to find a battle about to start in a day and prepares for battle. Roran is able to make it to the battle and helps the Varden fight. Near the end of the battle, Eragon finds that a Dragon is coming and fighting on Galbatorix’ side. When the two dragons are fighting, Eragon and Saphira are thrown to the ground.  Then, the other dragon and his rider land and the rider walks up to Eragon who is on the ground and can kill him at any moment.

Will Eragon figure out who is the rider?

Will Eragon escape with his life?
