What Did They Say?

talkWhat is All this Chatter About?

I am a bit of a slave to the media and the press.  Of late, I’ve been getting my fill of entertainment news.  What I keep seeing over again are the topics of Britney and K-Fed, Angie and Brad, and Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer.  Like a moth to flame, I can’t resist them…. I’m entrenched in the saga.  However, let it be said that I don’t take any of this stuff seriously, I just find it hard to believe that so much of our national press is focused on these stories.

So, for those who have successfully avoided the Britney Spears media of late, the situation is that her publicist is working OT to clean up Britney’s mess and reposition her within the entertainment world.  Part of accomplishing this included a film that was shot while she was getting ready to release her current album.  From what I can see, this film was shot in October of this year.   The film reminds me of a Madonna film (I’m showing my age), where the artist is trying to present them-self as a ‘normal’ person.   The entire film tends to focus on the fact that she is a “victim” of the press and her fame.

I watched this show on my DVR, so I am unsure as to whether it was MTV or VH1 that aired it.  This show follows Britney as she attends a publicity tour, goes shopping, goes to a play, eats dinner out, goes Trick-or-Treating, and ends with her shooting the main video to her Circus CD.   She has absolutely nothing prolific to say and she seems very muted about what has happened to her of late.  At an early age, she has learned about how people are, truthfully, out for Number 1.  She doesn’t make much conversation about K-Fed, at all.  This is why I was suprised at K-Fed’s attempts at publicity to “defend” himself against this Britney film.  Anyway, the one thing that she does say in the flick is that she is most affected by the fact that she is seen, but not heard.  What she says she wants is often ignored and passed over by her “team,” who I am assuming, she is paying

I really liked Britney’s Dad in the show.  He is a very real person and honestly loves and cares for his daughter.  He wants to see her happy, again, and doing what she loves.  The person that I enjoyed the least in her film was Madonna.  Ugh.  I mean, how much plastic surgery has this woman had, anyway?  She looks like Skeletor (but, then again.. anyone see Sharon Osborne of late?  MY GOD!).  But, she goes on and on speaking about how Britney must discover herself on a spiritual journey and that these things that Britney has done of late aren’t mistakes, they are simply a part of her growing up.  Then, Madonna references her so-called “mistakes” of the past and dismisses them all as “learning lessons.”  Madonna seems to view Britney as a younger version of herself and wants to take her under her wing.  She does make a comment about Britney’s talent and art… WHAT????

O.K., so Britney is “fine now,” according to the film.  According to her, she wasn’t as bad-off as the media reflected her to be.  WHAT?  Did you not shave your head, attack a car with an umbrella, go it the ocean with a chick with your panties on, do strange stuff in Vegas, get arrested, get hospitalized, and LOSE CUSTODY OF YOUR CHILDREN?  I can’t even imagine EVER losing custody of my children… I live for them until they are 18, that’s it.. plain and simple.

All this leads me to the article in People Magazine this week with K-Fed and the boys.  First off, I read the article before I watched the Britney film.  It was obvious that the entire article was established to show that K-Fed is the “good guy” and is raising his kids well.  He claims in the article that he deeply loved Britney and cited his wedding as one of the greatest moments in his life.  He is vague on whether or not he wants to reconcile with her, but does verbalize that he wants to maintain an amicable relationship with her for the sake of the boys.

So, what is all this about?  Is Britney going to return to court to attempt to get her boys back?  According to her film, all she wants is to fall in love with a man, be with him and her “babies.”  Oh, that and she wants to make more “babies.”  And, it would be great if she could live on an island with the man and all of her “babies.”   Or, is all of this publicity to sell her records?  She is definitely an artistic spirit and you can see that she is well-suited for the entertainment industry.

After reading the article and watching the film… I am left wondering… WHAT WAS THE POINT?  I mean, why all of this publicity?  My opinion hasn’t changed at all… Britney’s suffered a great hardship and was a total mess …. right now she is trying to heal.   Was the timing of this album too soon for her?  K-Fed is obviously driven by money and fame and is currently only doing what any other normal person would be doing in the same situation.  If he didn’t have the boys, I’m sure that the press would forget about him sooner rather than later.  He continues to ride Britney’s coat-tails and view himself as a celebrity, which he is NOT.

The biggest question of this entire scenario… why do Americans know so much about Britney Spears and so little about:

  • The true history and politics of the middle east
  • Global warming
  • Elected officials
  • World issues
  • Local News
  • State and National budgeting crisis issues
  • On-going genocide in our world

I admit, I don’t know all that I should.  THANK GOD that I’m a reader and am learning.  Also, THANK GOD that I have people in my life who are well read into important subjects that I can talk to about what I am seeing and reading, to enlighten me on what’s really happening in our world.

It makes me wonder… is it that we just don’t want to know how bad it really is….?  Is it easier to just get involved in viewing the lives of our “stars” than to dig deep into national issues of importance?

So, TALK TO ME… why do we know more about Britney Spear’s life than critical world-issues?   Of course, there are those people in the country who are “on-track” and could care-less about Hollywood media.  What I’m referring to is “mainstream.”  If we agree on the point that a hefty percentage of Americans know a considerable amount about Britney Spears… can we agree that an equivalent percentage of Americans know as much detail about the world issues outlined hereinabove?    If not… TALK TO ME… why?

I admit, I know more about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes… and their baby Suri… than I did about Darfur until Maw’s Books brought it into my fore-front.  How bad is that?  (My brother would cringe if he read that!)

What do you think?  TALK TO ME!

I have to agree with you. I remember the days when ALL the news stations were showing nothing but Britney. The news stations, how is this news? I understand it being on MTV and such, but CNN and FOX? Gimme a break!
I’m so glad all that drama is over and the news stations have found some news to show.

BTW, I can’t stand Tom Cruise, glad he’s out of the news too. And glad he apologized to Matt Lauer on TV.
