The Sunday Salon: Turning 40 & My Crush on Kevin McKidd

I was just over at My Friend Amy’s site, leaving her a comment on the Lifetime film Flirting With Forty.  I was commenting on my disappointment on the differences between the book and the movie.  I really liked the book and the movie really strayed on some important points of the book, for me.  Anyway, the movie and the book touch on the subject of turning 40.

Last night, I went to a 40th Birthday party for my childhood pal, Pam.  She turns 40 tomorrow.  How is that even possible?  I’ve known her and her husband since we were school-kids… and now we’re facing 40?  So, I’m on the car phone with my high school best friend, Lori, on the way to the party.  I just had to rub it in Lori’s face that… no matter what… at least she will be 40 before I will be!  That gives me great joy!  Giggle giggle.  But, in all seriousness, what is it with turning 40 and being a woman?  I don’t feel nearly 40… NOT AT ALL.  But, I do feel that life has done a decent job “weathering me.”

The Sunday Salon: Week in Review AND Up n’ Coming Events…

I read and reviewed Flirting With Forty, The Road, The Kite Runner, The Glass CastleYou Lost Me At Hello and The Alchemy of Loss.  I’m currently reading When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris (Hachette Books)  and should be done shortly.  It’s a funny book and I am enjoying it.  What I wish is that I had read Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim first, because from what I hear, you learn more about his family background and Hugh in his earlier books. There were a few chapters that I found myself laughing out loud, in public, while reading.

In my mailbox for revew…

  • Breathing Out The Ghost  by Kirk Curnutt
  • Holidays on Ice  by David Sedaris
  • Remembering Charles  by Wright

For my contests & challenges…

I’ve gotten a bit caught up!  I blogged for my Lit Flicks Challenge and Book Awards II Challenge this week.  Boy, did that feel good!  I’m not sure which challenges I want to sign up for next year.  This being my first year of blogging, I got a little overwhelmed with what I signed up for.  I may want to take it back a couple of notches for 2009.  I know that J. Kaye’s got some leads on some good ones and it sounds like My Friend Amy is brewing up some fun.  I guess I’ll figure it out soon.

At home…

I’m re-designing my store for BookCharming.Com to make it easier to shop there.  I’m working with a different platform… i.e. not a blog and I’m almost done.  I collected an order for another 18 and am getting ready for a holiday boutique.  That means… more beading!

It looks like I’m headed back to work in the next week or so… more details when things “firm up.”

My brother got the Christmas Lights up… reindeer are out and accompanied by a snowman.   Last year, somebody messed with my reindeer and snowman in the middle of the night.  The reindeer were doing the naughty and the snowman was at my front door.  I still haven’t discovered the perpetrator.

Contests….

I’m giving away a Jane Porter 4-pack for Flirting With Forty.  I’d like to thank Miriam and Hachette for all of the support in the review of Jane’s books and my giveaways.

Thursday’s Thoughts is back up and running, folks.  For a while, the weekly prizes will be a BookCharmer from www.BookCharming.com… which, I know you will absolutely love once you get one!  This past week’s winner was IceDream at Reading in Appalachia.  This week’s contest is for the pet lover in you… check it out!

Other…  You know, personal stuff

The Office this week was great.. did you see it?  Dwayne tricked Angela into being married to him.  Classic!   I want to see Jim and Pam get married, though.

Grey’s Anatomy… unlike My Friend Amy, I’m still hooked.  I liked seeing “Little Grey” hook up with McSteamy!  He’s such a stone fox.

Speaking of STONE FOX…. Hugh Jackman as the Sexiest Man Alive.  Oh… yes yes yes.  I totally gagged on the picture of Mario Lopez on page 128 of People… he looks a bit TUTTIE FRUITY.  But, who I’m finding really hunky nowadays is Kevin McKidd.  He was in this show that was on last season about a time-traveler and I really liked the show because I really liked the book The Time Traveler’s Wife and it kinda reminded me of that.  Anyway, I got a major crush on this guy then… and, now he’s on Grey’s Anatomy.  Yummy.  And, I’m normally the type to like brunettes… hmmm…

So, I can’t wait for the release of Marley and Me on Christmas Day.  Also, that new movie with Kate Winslet looks pretty good.

And, last.. but never least… I’m spreading some holiday cheer this year on A Novel Menagerie.  I’ve posted some “Gift of Music” ideas plus a post on how to send a book to a soldier overseas.  This week, I will be giving my LUXURY… perhaps for you… Christmas gift idea!

I’ve got such a busy week this week that I may be a bit quiet… but, I’m still here – just being productive and such!

Have a great week, Saloners!

P.S. – Lisa:  OKAY. OKAY.

Yay for you getting caught up. Can you pass a little of that on to me now???

I cannot wait to see what you think about Holidays on Ice. I’m curious to see if we’ll like the same stories!

I DVR’d Flirting with Forty but have yet to watch it. They changed Kai’s name, right???

I was disappointed in the Flirting With Forty movie, too. Oh, once you hit 50, 40 doesn’t sound so bad.

I agree with you about Grey’s! Little Grey seems to be a much nicer person than her sister, and won’t they all die when they find out she hooked up with none other than McSteamy? And I, too, think this Kevin McKidd guy is pretty darn sexy, and I’m liking the way that romance is stacking up. Now if they’d just get rid of Izzy and her stupid “dead boyfriend!” I’m really sick of those scenes! No other resident could get away with what she does! I mean, come on! She’s having conversations with thin air! I’m ready for her to “go” with Denny.
