My 100th Post…. The Writer’s Block
I can’t believe that I’m writing you for the 100th time. I remember, just about 3 months ago, I knew VERY little about blogging. I had read a couple of blogs, but I really didn’t even know what “blog” meant or how they worked. The very next thing I know, I’m finishing up an incredibly relaxing day with my 100th post to you! This internet medium is such a great way of connecting to people who I never would have met otherwise. I never knew how much I enjoyed writing, art, and meeting like-minded women.
What’s on my mind for Monday? Many things… I hope you stay with me.
Just a Quickie on Dancing With The Stars
Let’s start with where’s my Dancing With the Stars post? Well, frankly, I watched it and wasn’t all that impressed with the show. The entire group dance thing just didn’t sit well with me. This is mainly due to the fact that Susan Lucci just completely threw the ChaChaTeam’s dance. The team didn’t stand a chance with her insufficient dancing skills and her absence from practice time. It’s like they were punished because she was in New York during rehearsal time. And, I think that blows! But, I think that Lance and Lacey were strong enough that they will get enough votes on their own… and hopefully so will Cody. If Cody goes home because of the team dance, I will be super bummed. So, this week… even though my votes should go to my favorites, I’m voting all 6 to Cody… just to make sure that he isn’t ousted due to Susan. So, it’s all about keeping the best 5 teams in for me this week. As far as the best dances of the week, they go to Brooke & Derek and Lance & Lacey. They were head and shoulders above the rest. Did anybody notice how much weight it looks like Warren has lost? When he was practicing the Paso Doble… he looked a lot fitter. Good for Warren! I wish I could afford ballroom lessons… I’d be there in a minute burning the fat!
Birthday Blues & Patriotism
Today… well, I did get some time in my comfy bed…. which included a bit of napping… sans the Chardonnay. But, my kitty cat snuggled with me and my dog beside my bed on the floor while I read The Alchemy of Loss. I’m reading the book for TLC Book Tours and I’m really enjoying it. It’s about a widow of 9/11. It tugs at my heartstrings so much. I start thinking about our military involvement to stop Al Queda.
I personally know men and women who currently serve our country and are overseas, I’m just so grateful for our armed forces. Regardless of politics or president, they are still there and being shipped to Afganistan and Iraq, while I am sitting at home protected because of their duty. They give up their liberty so that I can be a free woman today. I can vote. I can write my feelings on this blog. I can raise my children and have a rewarding life. I am free because I am protected. I hope that we all remember, especially during this voting season, that this is a wonderful, wonderful country we live in. Albeit that there is corruption, power, money, politics, religion, etc. at work in our country. Despite that, America is still that country that cares when no other country will. We have enemies that believe that it is their duty to their “God” to kill all those who do not worship like them. We have a world where children are brainwashed to strap bombs to their bodies and look forward to their suicide mission as a means to their reunion to their “God.” We live in a world where genocide still exists despite the atrocities of our past. We live in a world of starvation and disease. And, more than any other country I see in action, I see America always at least trying to help in some way when other countries turn a blind eye. I believe that is because of America’s citizens, the heartbeat of our nation.
On “Election Eve,” I pray that our next wave of leadership will lead us into a swift financial recovery and path into world peace, the right way… whatever that may be. As I blew out my candles on my cake tonight (a very good cake, I may add… courtesy of my best friend, Danielle), I wished for the safety and security of my family. As I write you tonight, I am reminded that that wish should have included all the families of this great land, not just mine.
I got a fantastic ending to my day. I got the always-perfect mani/pedi. Beautiful long red nails perfectly painted toes (little white flowers on the big toes). While I was away pampering and gossiping with my manicurist, my children cleaned the house and lit candles for my return (scary, I know.. with fire.. but, they are trained with the candle lighter). They waited at the front door, cleaned up and dressed for dinner with smiles… “Happy Birthday, Mom.” Precious! Totally, precious! My family couldn’t make the dinner afterall, so my best friend and her kids took us out to Mexican food (yum). She way over-did it and gave me 2 bouquets of flowers, a cake from a BAKERY, a sizeable GC to Barnes & Noble (to feed my fetish), a pin-up calendar with ladies to match my site, and her babes brought me a pretty picture (it said, “I Love You, Sheri”) and a princess crown, which I donned through dinner (which she also bought). I came home and watched DWTS with my kiddos and fell asleep on the couch (there is not enough that can be said about the SECOND nap of the day!).
Lastly, I never made it to the ocean today… nor did I get my lottery ticket. I guess some traditions change. But, I did get a visit from an old friend. The visit was memorable. It felt great to share time with my friend and I’m happy about the visit.
For my 100th post…. I am filled mostly with hope for my next year. I look forward to making more “blogger” friends… and can’t wait to share the next 365 with you!
